IT’S UNDENIABLE THAT the metro Detroit hotel scene has elevated its game over the last few years. Chic properties such as the Detroit Foundation Hotel, the Shinola Hotel, and The Siren Hotel have brought a new level of design and luxury to the market — and given couples a wealth of options for hosting unforgettable wedding celebrations. The Daxton Hotel is the latest entry into the local hotel scene and promises to be one of the poshest yet.

Located on Woodward Avenue in downtown Birmingham and set to open its doors in February, the $60 million Daxton Hotel is a minimalist-luxe masterpiece by local entrepreneur Mark Mitchell. The 151-room hotel, named for Mitchell’s son, boasts a nearly 400-piece art collection curated by Saatchi Art; a flagship restaurant, Madam, helmed by renowned chef Garrison Price; and stunning event spaces for groups as large as 300.

Couples who wed or hold a reception at the Daxton can also look forward to Insta-perfect backdrops galore for their event photography. Vibrant colors flood spaces throughout the hotel, including a chartreuse lobby, lavender parlors, and deep burgundy guestrooms with scrim headboard backdrops created by famed local muralist Ouizi (brides — just imagine the getting ready photos).

Mitchell says, most important will be the hotel’s commitment to a high level of service provided by the hotel and event staff who will be dedicated to exceeding the expectations of discerning couples at every turn. “Daxton will set a hospitality standard far beyond the Midwest, and it is an absolute privilege to deliver a project that will be an important aspect of Birmingham’s fabric for generations to come,” Mitchell says.
